If someone told you that four basic numbers give you a snapshot of your health, and a road map for improving it, would you believe it? It's true, they do!
During a health check-up, your doctor takes a careful look at your 'numbers', including your cholesterol and triglyceride levels, your blood pressure, blood sugars, and more. These numbers tell us how the risk factors of having high blood pressure, cholesterol, and sugars impact our health.
Did you know there are other ‘numbers’ that fitness professionals say we should be aware of to improve our health?
For instance, do you know what your body fat % is? The higher the %, the more at risk you are for heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer. Or how flexible/mobile your joints and muscles are? The less flexibility you have in your joints/muscles puts you at risk for injury or falls. Or the strength of your heart muscle? A strong heart improves blood flow, decreases blood pressure, and helps maintain sugar levels. Having an awareness of these baseline numbers can help you improve your health.
