Make ‘You’ Time to De-Stress and Recharge

Dear Franciscan Health Fitness Center Chesterton Members,

Our staff would like to invite you to explore our massage options.  Our massage sessions are there to help soothe, rejuvenate, and relieve stress of everyday life along with facilitating healing and recovery for your body.  Our massage therapists can help those with the following: Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Frozen Shoulders, Headaches, Parkinson’s Disease, Piriformis Syndrome, Stress Relief, Sprains, Strains, TMJ, Tendinitis, and Whiplash

We offer a range of massage options best suited to meet your needs:

Swedish Massage

Therapists use a combination of five basic strokes, all flowing toward the heart, in order to manipulate the body’s soft tissues. Benefits may include general relaxation, increased flexibility, relief from muscular tension, decreased muscular discomfort, and improved circulation.

Sedentary Support

With the client fully clothed, this Swedish-style massage is for individuals that have a sedentary lifestyle or job. Benefits include increased
energy, flexibility, and range of motion. Cream or oil would only be used on exposed skin such as the hands and feet.

Deep Tissue Massage

This type of massage incorporates greater pressure to reach deep muscular layers. Deep tissue massage concentrates on areas of tension and alleviates pain. This is beneficial for those who have been involved in heavy physical activity and may be recommended by a physician. A release from a medical professional may be required for individuals with an acute physical injury.

Prenatal / Postpartum Massage
This Massage modality encompasses work done during pregnancy and postpartum. Techniques are tailored to the needs of the mother and her current phase of pregnancy. The mother will be positioned to help relieve pressure on the back, pelvis, hips and abdomen. The goal of perinatal massage is also very similar to that of a regular massage session: loosen the strain on muscles and joints, promote relaxation, decrease stress hormones, and increase blood and lymphatic circulation. Perinatal massage can also help facilitate a more naturally progressive, relaxed and, at times, faster labor.

Craniosacral Therapy

With the client fully clothed, the therapist uses distinctive light-touch techniques (pressure is about the weight of a nickel) to release tensions
deep in the body to relieve pain and aid in the improvement of whole-body health. A craniosacral therapy session can be used alone or combined with other massage therapies. Appropriate for migraines and headaches, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, stress and more.

Our massage options are offered in single sessions or packages ranging from 30 to 90 minutes.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING A MASSAGE SESSION?

Location
Your massage session will take place in a quiet, relaxing, private room on a table designed for your comfort. Massage rooms are accessed
through the men’s and women’s locker rooms.

Modesty
Most massage techniques are performed best while you are unclothed. However, it is important that you feel comfortable. After a pre-session
consultation with your massage therapist you will be left alone in the room to undress to your comfort level and lay between sheets on the heated massage table. The therapist will always make sure you are draped for warmth and modesty. If you ever feel uncomfortable, let your therapist know what they can adjust.

Massage oils and cream
Your massage therapist will use a light oil or cream to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction on the skin. Please inform your therapist of skin sensitivities or allergies.

Relaxing environment
While many people close their eyes and completely relax during a massage, others prefer to talk. It is your session, so make yourself comfortable.

After the massage
Most people feel very relaxed following a massage. Some experience relief from long-term aches and pains, while others simply feel energized. It is important to stay properly hydrated after a massage.

Session Courtesies
Showering is recommended before massage appointments to help loosen tight muscles and to remove perfumes, lotions, and colognes. For your comfort avoid large meals, caffeine, tobacco, and other stimulants prior to your massage.
